April 28 — It was certainly a memorable afternoon for the Dream Big Pilipinas Football Program. Both teams won at the Nayon Cup held at the DSWD Center in Mandaluyong.
The girls team composed of players from the GK Concepcion and Hilaga communities completed a flawless campaign in a group of 9 teams.
The team entered the tournament with minimal practice as a mixed group. However, the strategy of assigning roles for each community paid off well, as the team won matches in convincing fashion and finished with victories, just a single draw and zero losses. The team fielded Concepcion players to man the offensive attack, while the Hilaga players solidified the defense.
In the boys division, the Select Team settled for 2nd place after a heartbreaking penalty shootout which ended their title run. The team finished at the top of their group composed of 9 teams, and tied with Leveriza-2030 FC, which lead to a penalty shootout decider.
The shootout ended with a 0-1 victory for Leveriza-2030 FC, whose final attempt at goal hit the sidepost before ricochetting into the net. It was indeed an amazing goal that brought many of the Select Team players to tears. It was a great experience for the team and a good test of heart. The team will bag this feat to experience, and march on a stronger and wiser team heading into the highly anticipated GK Cup in 2 weeks.
